first off, a little background information: after highschool, I was accepted into and attended a liberal arts university in a 2+2 engineering program(2 years there and 2 years at an engineering school). I went there, made excellent grades (3.5 GPA) and then got accepted to go to a very good engineering school. I decided to major in Materials Science and Engineering. Anyway, I get to engineering school and jump right into my engineering classes(no more humanities). I'm enjoying my classes and I find them interesting, but difficult. My GPA from my first university does not transfer over and I'm struggling to keep my mandatory above 2.0 GPA that the school requires, but I don't intend to quit.

My question is about employment after school. How much stock to employers put into GPA? Will they take into consideration my first two years or only look at what I have done in engineering school? I've heard that as long as I have that degree I will be fine but to be honest I am concerned

Ok...I just graduated with my BSME this month, so you know where my information comes from. I actually got a full time job with the engineering firm i had been working part time for. Which is a good idea for you. Start out at like 10/hr working part time for some company nearby. They always need help doing something.

Most employers will weed out people based on their graduating gpa, and then select the best candidate among other things like how well they fit the work environment and the people, well-roundedness, group/society involvement, and other interests. But even if you have that low gpa, here at your enginering college, make sure to send along a copy of your other transcript. (That is suprising that your college wont accept any gpa from them. Usually if it's C or better it transfers.)

Just tell them that you did awesome at this other college and that if you had taken all the classes at this university, then your gpa would have been much much higher, but you wanted to save a few bucks along the way (thriftiness can be a good quality, but not too much).

You might have a bit of a challenge getting in the door, but you should do fine after that. Good luck.

How do I keep energy after school for track meets and such?
I usually have absolutely no energy right after school, right when track starts. I don't know why this happens. Depends where you live. Where are you? If it is icy they will definitely cancel, especially at night because it gets colder and icier and they do not want to take responsibility for holding an event they might be liable for in terms of accidents. They canceled all schools where I live in CT...you must live where it hasn't been that snowy/icy if they went to school in the first place and are only canceling after school programs. You still have a good chance though.

i think it's like 30 mins to an hour. talk to the principal about it and explain the situation about guys missing their buses. i live in a rural area so th school uses an in-house type of detention and suspension program. where the guys do their punishment during school hours.

Here's a little story.

Someone that I know had a lot of after-school/extracurricular activities, and about the same grades as one of his friends. His friend actually had better grades, and better standardized test scores. They both applied to the same school, and the one with the extracurriculars got in.

Extracurricular activities can set you apart from many people. I would HIGHLY suggest getting involved it is pretty crucial in the application process, at least it was for me. Especially get involved in something that has to do with community service -- Key Club is a great example if your school has one or something of that nature.
